Monday 29 April 2024 - 7:00 p.m.

Maison des Polytechniciens - Hôtel de Poulpry

China and the West are engaged in a fierce competition for leadership in high-tech, green-tech, innovation and Artificial Intelligence.

In the past decade, China had emerged as a frontrunner in developing and applying digital technologies, particularly AI, across various sectors, including e-commerce, ride-hailing, autonomous driving, as well as implementations in schools, office buildings and factories.  It was set to become the global leader in AI.

But restrictions on tech trade and chip-bans in recent years, and the spectacular advances in Generative AI in the US in 2022 and 2023, have reshuffled the cards.

China is cultivating counterparts to ChatGPT, such as Baidu’s Ernie Bot and Alibaba Group Holding’s Tongyi Qianwen, but American firms OpenAI and Google continue to lead. The UK, France, Israel, Canada, India, Japan, Germany and Singapore are the other countries leading the Tech-AI race.

What are the perspectives for the future?
What are the global impacts of the Tech-AI rivalry ?  What are the risks?
What can we learn from cultural differences between the West and China?
What are the differences in leadership, management, entrepreneurship,
as well as in the capacities to innovate and embrace change?
