HEC- Ivy Plus European Leaders Jazzy Afterwork 2026

"If music be the food of love, play on"
(Shakespeare)

In these times of intense challenges,
when we wonder about
the ubiquitous effects of AI,
the future of finance & the economy,
the impacts of climate change,
the worlwide rise of political & religious extremism,
the fate of democracies & liberties,
We feel it is essential for alumni
from leading schools & universities
on both sides of the Atlantic to befriend
and spearhead solutions together.

What better way than a "rentrée" event with music and good cheer?

Oliver Griffith has been playing professionally for over 40 years, including during his 20 year career as a US diplomat in Africa, South America, and Europe. After studying ethnomusicology and jazz at Wesleyan University, he earned a Master of Music degree from the New England Conservatory. He also studied Jazz at the Berklee School of Music in Boston, and classical flute at the Richard Strauss Konservatorium in Munich and, while working as a diplomat, earned a diploma from ENA in Paris.

In Paris, Oliver was Director General of the American Chamber of Commerce (Am Cham-France) and Head of Communications for the World Bank. Since his retirement in 2016, he concentrates fulltime on music, mostly classic jazz, performing with some of France's top musicians.

At our HEC-IPEL Afterwork, Oliver Griffith will be accompanied by French pianist Patrice Galas.

PATRICE  GALAS is a pianist who ranks amongst the great of today’s jazz. He has, to name but a few, accompanied more than 50 of the great names of world jazz, such as Dizzy Gillespie, Hank Mobley, Kenny Clark, Johnny Griffith, Lou Bennett, Slide Hampton, Stan Getz. He has participated in the creation of books on blues and modern Jazz, and has contributed on the Dictionnaire du Jazz edited by Robert Laffont (France). He is also the author of the first jazz methods in France, with the series “La Musique Moderne”.
