IVY PLUS EUROPEAN LEADERS The Forum of Leading Alumni in Europe
IVY  PLUS EUROPEAN  LEADERSThe Forum of Leading Alumni in Europe

Ivy Plus European Leaders  is delighted to invite you to a very topical and stimulating Dinner-Talk on Individual Liberty and  The Rule of Law Worldwide with renowned philosopher, author,  founder of think tank Generation Libre found political movement Simple French Presidential Candidate Gaspard Koenig In these times of upheaval and change, how do people across the world challenge, preserve, uphold or save their Individual Liberty?  Globalization, Increasing Governmental Rules, Controls & Regulations,  Big Data, Social Networks, Invasive Algorithms, Facial Recognition,    Is Individual Freedom in Danger?  Wednesday 19 January 2022 – 7:00 pm Maison des Polytechniciens Artificial intelligence (AI) promises to generate productivity gains, improve well-being and help solve complex challenges such as climate change, resource scarcity and health crises. Yet, AI raises many important questions related to human values, our individual freedom and the bases of democracy.  Should we accept a world where humans abdicate their autonomy and sense of responsibility.  Can there be rights without democracy?  How are our thinking processes being altered?  How should we educate our children?  Are there solutions? In the past ten years, Philosopher and Author Gaspard Koenig has travelled across the world several times to meet leading actors of civilization changes, inventors, innovators, hackers, geeks, startup founders, AI gurus, political figures at opposite side of the spectrum, and the everyday individual, reflecting on the challenges of our modern world, its virtues and its threats.  His journeys have taken him from the Silicon Valley to China, from India to Africa, from Peru to Finland, from Canada to Israel, throughout Europe, and last year, on horseback, across France, Germany and Italy.  Taken aback by countries where Artificial Intelligence rules and where ‘Black Mirror’ is already a reality, by a world increasingly dominated by algorithms and rules, Gaspard Koenig argues the need to keep or regain control of our individual freedom. Speaker Gaspard Koenig A graduate of Ecole Normale Supérieure and Columbia University, philosopher Gaspard Koenig taught at University of Lille and worked for Christine Lagarde, Minister of Economy of the French Government, before joining the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Gaspard Koenig teaches philosophy at Sciences Po University (IEP) and writes a regular column in Les Echos and Le Point. In 2013, he founded the liberal think-tank Generation Libre to promote liberalism.  In 2017, it was ranked among the top European think tanks.  He has recently founded the political movement Simple.  He is the author of numerous novels and essays, among which  La Fin de l'Individu - Voyage d'un philosophe au pays de l'intelligence artificielle (The End of the Individual – Journey of a Philosopher to the Land of Artificial Intelligence),  Un Philosophe aux Pays des Libertés (A Philosopher in the Lands of Liberties), The Revolutionary, the Expert and the Geek, Adventurers of Freedom.  In 2021, Gaspard Koenig published  the dystopian novel L'Enfer (Hell),  a mirror held up to mass surveillance, uniformness, materialism, globalization, planned obsolescence, interchangeable humans, places and things,  Notre Vagabonde Liberté, A cheval sur les traces de Montaigne (Our Roaming Freedom - On horseback on the tracks of Montaigne), a journal of his "slow" trip across Europe on horseback in the quest for liberty, and an essay Simplifions-nous la Vie (Let's Simplify our Lives).    He is a Young Leader of the French-American Foundation.  ______________________________________________ Ivy Plus European Leaders and Technion France in partnership with Eleven Strategy and Arts et Métiers Alumni are delighted to invite to a fascinating round-table on The Future of Digital Media & Data-Privacy Impacts on Society, the Economy and Lifestyle Monday 27 June 2022 - 7 pm - Salons des Arts et Métiers Opening Speaker Sylvie OUZIEL - CEO Shared Platforms Publicis will be joined by Sarah HERZ - Head Conde Nast Creative Studio, Roxane ADLE-AIGUIER - Head Digital Domain Research Orange  Gabriella LAZZONI- Head Communication Content Veolia Adam Ring, Chief Evangelist IBM to share & swap expertise, reflect on the future of digital media and discuss impacts on society, work and lifestyle. Many artists were committed to the communist cause and wanted to participate in the construction of the new society through their works. Led for the most part by genuine convictions, as with Mayakovsky, these artists held opposing ideas on what the art of socialism should be. From the end of the 1920s, such debates were silenced by the Stalinist regime. This led to the gradual establishment of socialist realism, an aesthetic doctrine that came to govern all areas of creativity. Such debates were followed closely in capitalist countries: many artistic exchanges were established with the young Soviet Russia, which attracted intellectuals and artists curious to discover the «fatherland of socialism». It is this story, with its tensions and its ups and downs, that the exhibition relates through a series of important works on loan from the major Russian museums and the Centre Pompidou; a history where material innovations and ideological constraints, inextricably linked, raise the question of a possible politicisation of the arts. Introduction and Presentation Nicolas Liucci-Gotniko  Curator of the Exhibition 'RED' Nicolas Liucci-Goutnikov is a curator at Centre Pompidou, Musée national d’art moderne in Paris. He has a Ph.D. in philosophy of art with a specialization in analytical aesthetics. He authored numerous essays dedicated to modern and contemporary art on such topics, as Fluxus, Jeff Koons, Tino Sehgal among others. In charge of the scientific coordination of the museum, he curated several exhibitions, among which “Reframing Modernism” at the National Gallery Singapore (2016) and “KOLLEKTSIA! Art contemporain en URSS et en Russie 1950-2000” (2016). Following the exhibition, we invite you to a glass de champagne with the curator in the delightful restaurant across the Grand Palais overlooking the Champs-Elysées gardens The Marigny Restaurant. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was Christmas eve, a young student was trying to get home. Rethinking Cyberwar and Cybersecurity

with IT security expert

Doug Mc Lean

Stanford BA, MS, Dartmouth MBA

Global VP at Seculert

Thursday May 28, 2015 – 7:00 pm

 Images intégrées 2Images intégrées 3Images intégrées 4

Cybersecurity is a major priority for all governments, companies and individuals.   The information security industry generates a little more than $70 billion per year in revenue and is growing ~10% per year. Nearly all of the growth is driven by the fact that the industry, for the most part, is failing to protect the individuals and enterprises,  enabling the massive data breaches seen at companies such as Target, Sony, Blue Cross and hundreds of other public sector and private enterprises.

Cybercriminal gangs are now better funded and more technically sophisticated than many of the companies they target... Recent research indicates that proxy devices supposed to stop malware and virus fail to perform as designed 15-90% of the time.

Doug McLean will discuss recent developments against cyber espionage, intellectual property loss, cyber terrorism... and what large enterprises and individuals can do to protect themselves.

Images intégrées 5Doug McLean serves as the Global VP of Marketing at Seculert, a leading IT security company based in Israel and California.  Previously Doug served as McAfee’s Senior Director of Product & Solutions Marketing for Global Threat Intelligence & McAfee Labs, VP of Online Operation and Products at PGP Corporation before its acquisition by Symantec. Earlier, he was the VP of Marketing at Postini, a leading anti-spam service provider since acquired by Google. Doug McLean has also held executive positions in Marketing and Product Development at Apple, Xerox, and Hewlett-Packard.

The talk will be followed by a cocktail reception with champagne

Exceptional Talk
by

Lobsang Sangay
Prime Minister of Tibet

L

obsang Sangay is the second most powerful Tibetan leader after the Dalai LamaSikyong Sangay, democratically elected, came into the limelight in 2011 when the Dalai Lama decided to abdicate political responsibility.  Born in India, in a refugee community, he is the first Tibetan to have studied at Harvard University, where he obtained his LL.M and doctoral degree in law.

Prime Minister Lobsang Sangay will speak on

The Future of Relations between Tibet, the United States and Europe

In February 2015, welcoming the Dalai Lama to the White House, President Obama described him as one “who inspired us to speak up for the freedom and dignity of all human beings.”  A 3rd visit criticized by China.  What can be the relationship between the exiled government of Tibet, the U.S. and European countries?

Discussions will also extend to

The Third Pole and Climate Change

The Third Pole (as scientists call Tibet), also known as the Roof of the World, is the water tower of Asia.  Its melting ice threatens the lives of 1.5 billion people, a major topic in view of France hosting the 21st climate conference this year.

Dear Members
Ivy Plus European Leaders

is thrilled to extend to you a special invitation by one of the most outstanding Stanford faculty members
Fred Turner

Director of Stanford Program in Science, Technology and Society
Stanford Associate Professor of Communication & by courtesy of Art and Art History

to his fascinating Talk in Paris

The Democratic Surround
From Counterculture to Cyberculture

Professor Turner challenges us to think about the lines between information, entertainment, art and propaganda.  He sheds new light on how our networked culture came to be.  For a generation of historians, the psychedelic sixties explosion of creative energy and freedom represented a direct revolt against the social restraint and authoritarian hierarchy of the early Cold War years. Fred Turner makes a different case and reconnects the immersive, multi-mediated environments of the 1960’s to the decades that preceded them, starting with World War II and the use of media by fascist leaders.  In the same vein, he demonstrates how mass communication techniques and computers, which embodied the bleak tools of war propaganda, have come with the dawn of the Internet in the 1990’s to represent a collaborative and digital utopia – “the virtual community” - close to the communal ideals of the hippies.  He shows how important media has become to the design of collective experiences and forms of democratic citizenship.

The developing world  is increasingly described as, "book-poor but mobile device-rich". According to UNESCO, in poor countries, on average there is just one book to every 19 children. Even in the UK, one in 3 children do not have a single book in their home.  What people do have, more and more, is access to a mobile device, even people in the most remote and poor areas. (There are more than 6 billion mobile subscriptions in the world today!)
